Michigan Cicada Photograph

We discovered this cicada on our back deck a couple days after enjoying the sound of the cicadas in our woods. The cicada enjoyed a brief stay in our home while we prepared for its photoshoot.

It is really neat to look at a cicada up close and see it move. My kids enjoyed seeing it generate that trademark "cicada sound." For the most part, the cicada didn't move much while in captivity, but it was released successfully into the great outdoors of Michigan after I finished photographing it up close.

I loved looking at the colorful veins in the cicada's wings -- prior to this photoshoot I hadn't realized how green the cicada actually was. Beautiful.
