I woke up this morning to see a gentle blanket of snow over the leaves and grass on our yard…  Gotta love lake effect snow.  Found this pretty cool site though:  Michigan Snow Cams.  There isn’t a webcam south of Lansing or Flint, but aside from that, it’s neat to see how much it’s snowing in the UP  (that’s upper peninsula for you non-Michiganders).

In Memory

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

We were going to put up a flag to fly today, but due to the ongoing yard project, plans had to be changed. So, instead, I figured that a virtual flag would be the next best thing. So, in memory of the September 11th, 2001 attacks…

Summer in Reverse!

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Hopefully you are having a great summer! It’s flown by very quickly… I can’t believe Labor Day is sneaking up on us!

I just found out that a number of blog posts from this summer were somehow caught in blog lingo! So, I’ll be adding them to the blog… with the date they were supposed to be posted. Go figure! Sometimes, technology is a bit tricky…. :D

Monday, July 28th, 2008

This summer is flying by! I do have some exciting news to share, but I’ll post the details tomorrow. The results for the 2008 International Print Competition have been released, and this evening I was finally able to find out how my entries fared! Now, remember, the competition, held by the Professional Photographers of America, culminates with a traveling exhibition and national awards ceremony. Very exciting!

Of my four entries, three featured photographs I created for clients — and one was what you would consider “fine art.” I’m going to keep things somewhat secret until tomorrow though, when I can share in more detail. I will say this, though. All four of my entries did extremely well, and will (unofficially) be in the 118th International Print Exhibition.

To the Moon and Back

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

This weekend has been so very busy! Of course I didn’t really make it to the moon. But you have to admit that would be an amazing trip.

So… it looks like NASA’s gearing up to send another expedition to the moon… at least eventually. Right now, they’re working on sending a spacecraft to collect data about the moon’s surface. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbitor (LRO) will be taking a microchip containing names of people from around the world with it. Anyone who wants to can sign up to send their name into space.

When you fill out your name on the online form, you even get a little certificate that you can print out. So, while I know I personally will never make it into orbit around the moon, now at least I can send my name there! It’s kind of exciting in a silly sort of way. Think of how exciting this would have been when we were kids!

The deadline is June 27, 2008 for the submission of names.

Email + Laptop

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I love getting email from all of you! In fact, it’s one of the first things I “process” when sitting down to work. Unfortunately, as mentioned in the previous post, my laptop is a little under the weather, so I may be slow in processing your emails from this week.

What’s up? Well, I’m not sure, but the LCD display is not working (or if it turns on, it does so intermittently). Tech support has been called, and I appreciate your patience as I reply to emails “the old fashioned” way… via web-browser.

:D

A Note…

Monday, March 31st, 2008

First snow, then sun, then snow again. And now it’s raining with a hint of thunder. Go figure. Hopefully spring will officially be here to stay soon! I know I’m getting confused with all the different temperatures lately….

Anyways, we have a secret to share tomorrow! It’s exciting, and I promise it’s not an April Fool’s Day joke. So there, now that you have warning, it can’t be discredited! Keep an eye out for the studio event that will be posted tomorrow, and make sure to participate (it’s for a good cause).

Enjoy the last day of March!

Check Your Clocks…

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

I almost forgot that this weekend was Daylight Saving Time! Well, not really, but I was surprised that it snuck up on us this quickly. While double-checking that the clocks actually were set to turn back this weekend, I came across this neat article/website online: About Daylight Saving Time. It explains a lot of history about DST, some quirky facts, and even discusses which states and countries observe DST (or have in the past).

So, anyways, enjoy that link, and don’t forget that we lose an hour between now and tomorrow…

“Who is Your Favorite Client?”

Who is Your Favorite Client? ;) — Beth

Ok, so you didn’t really expect me to answer this question, did you? Since we ended the year by highlighting the happenings at Betsy’s Photography, let’s begin the year by talking about you! The truth is, I enjoy working with each and every one of my clients. Every individual I photograph helps me to redefine myself an artist — of course, while consistently creating a wonderful piece of photographic art for every client.

To my clients: I love capturing your memories and creating photographic art for you to enjoy. It has been a pleasure working with so many individuals, with so many unique personalities. I am looking forward to planning your next portrait session with you, so that we can continue to capture your memories.

To those newlywed and even not-quite-so-newlywed: congratulations! It has been wonderful to capture your wedding memories, and I know that you will love your wedding album and images even more as time goes on. May you have a wonderful year of marriage and continue to enjoy each others’ company!
