“What’s Your Favorite Location?”

Friday, January 25th, 2008

What is your favorite location around the studio for location portrait sessions? I need ideas! — A.L.

Honestly, my favorite location depends on the client I am working with. I am always excited to photograph on location, because the possibilities are endless. When we start planning a location portrait session, I always make sure to see what my client had in mind. Sometimes there is a specific place that means a lot to my client, and often, that turns out to be a wonderful location for their portrait session.

Yes, I have a few standard locations that I suggest when discussing location portrait sessions, but I really prefer to ask what you want before giving my ideas. If the location has a special meaning for you, it makes your location portrait session even more meaningful. Whether that location is outdoors at your favorite park, or indoors at your local church or school, if there is a spot you love, we can discuss creating your portrait there.

The more personalized we can make your location portrait session, the better. And by focusing on places that are meaningful to you, we can create a unique portrait for you — that won’t look just like everyone else’s family portrait. So, before cluttering your mind with a number of locations around downtown Ann Arbor, or neat spots in the village of Dexter, I’d like to ask you, “where is your favorite location?”

Images on Display in Florida

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

The 117th International Exhibition of Professional Photography was on display January 6-8 in conjunction with a professional convention held by the Professional Photographers of America. Two of Betsy Finn’s images were among the more than 4,000 images on display for the event. The first day of the event boasted record-breaking crowds.

In addition to being able to view my images on display at the Exhibition, I was also able to attend some great programs and learn about how nationally recognized photographers are using their creative skills to shape the industry. It is a great way to get creatively recharged — and trust me, around this time in Michigan, with our lovely weather, Florida is a great place to find creative inspiration.

While the exhibition was not on display permanently, you can still experience a miniature version of the display, as we do have award-winning photographic art on display in our studio.

Who is Your Favorite Client? ;) — Beth

Ok, so you didn’t really expect me to answer this question, did you? Since we ended the year by highlighting the happenings at Betsy’s Photography, let’s begin the year by talking about you! The truth is, I enjoy working with each and every one of my clients. Every individual I photograph helps me to redefine myself an artist — of course, while consistently creating a wonderful piece of photographic art for every client.

To my clients: I love capturing your memories and creating photographic art for you to enjoy. It has been a pleasure working with so many individuals, with so many unique personalities. I am looking forward to planning your next portrait session with you, so that we can continue to capture your memories.

To those newlywed and even not-quite-so-newlywed: congratulations! It has been wonderful to capture your wedding memories, and I know that you will love your wedding album and images even more as time goes on. May you have a wonderful year of marriage and continue to enjoy each others’ company!
