Wedding Photography Check-List
If you’re like me, by the time you started planning your wedding you probably already made a few lists so you won’t forget anything important when it gets closer to your big day. Maybe you’ve even wondered about making a list of “Must-Have Images” to give to your photographer. Having experienced weddings as both a photographer and a bride, I can share a few secrets about those photography lists. As a bride-to-be, going over such a check-list was reassuring, but not a necessity. Every photographer knows to photograph the bride and groom together, separately, and with their bridal party. It’s not really necessary to go into detail on which formal poses you want. What even the best photographers can’t do is read minds! At Betsy’s Photography, we will ask you ahead of time if there any special requests – if your great-aunt Millie has traveled 100 miles to be at your wedding and you want a photograph of her, make sure to let us know. If you want some laid-back candid portraits of you and your new spouse outdoors at sunset, just tell us! There’s no need to worry about whether we will photograph your first dance – we know that’s important! In addition to covering the “highlights” of your wedding day, we’ll also make sure to get some detail shots so you can remember how beautiful your flowers looked next to the cake, even years later!
Here’s the secret about wedding photography check-lists — are you ready? In truth, they’re really more of a guideline. As a photographer, I do my best to capture your wedding day moments, and if I were to work verbatim from a check-list, I might be so focused on getting those “must-haves” that I miss an even better spontaneous moment. Of course, I’m sure you’ll still love your wedding images, but when you give me the freedom to capture the moments, your wedding photographs will be that much better!
I’m often reminded (by my clients!) how much planning is involved with weddings. When your wedding arrives, you will be amazed at how everything seems to come together! One thing that helped my husband and I was a decision we made a few months before our wedding – when the rehearsal dinner started, our jobs as event planners would be complete. This gave us a chance to unwind, relax, and begin to enjoy the celebration! Even if you can’t be finished with all your wedding plans, at least set aside a day or two to relax and forget about your To-Do lists. That way, you won’t become so overwhelmed with planning that you forget to enjoy the wedding!
